Workshops and Demonstrations

Village Green English Country Dancers are available to perform demonstrations and offer introductory group workshops. Learn the hand-clapping, toe-tapping dances from the villages and the more elegant court dances from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Demonstrations

Village Green dancers can offer short demonstrations of English Country dances ranging from the 1600’s up to modern times. Our dancers can come in period appropriate costumes. We can also offer some simple participatory dances, in addition to demonstrating more complex examples of this living folk art.

We have danced at corporate events, care homes, theaters, and special events and festivals held around or near Winnipeg including the Forks, Bird’s Hill Park, Shakespeare in the Ruins, and St Norbert’s Farmer’s Market.

Workshops

The Village Green teaching team offers participatory workshops highlighting the history and evolution of English Country Dancing since it beginnings in the 1600’s.

Participants will spend an hour and half learning basic figures and then dancing a variety of English country dances from several time periods, including modern social dances. To participate dancers must have a moderate level of mobility.

In addition to decades of experience teaching dance, our teachers also teach in other areas including music education, alternative education and post-secondary education.
